Julie Wegulin 62 yr and Ali Batten 65 yr old , both grandmothers from Broome halted works on the proposed James Price Point gas hub by locking themselves to a vehicle 18 May 2012.
Ali Batten and Julie Wegulin locked themselves to a vehicle which was blocking the road on Manari Rd.
The women evaded police despite the presence of more than 100 extra officers in Broome due to protests. Police took several hours to free the women and took them away in a police vehicle at about 5.30pm.
Insp Bill Munnee said female officers were needed to attend to the women, as well as specialist police with the equipment to free them.
This protest is to stop the propesed Gas Hub by Woodside at James Price Point in The Kimberley, Western Australia, this will be 2s largest Gas in the World!. Broome,Western Australia.
