Possum Trapper { 10 images } Created 11 Mar 2021
Possums are the biggest pest in New Zealand.
"I started shooting possums when I was about twelve. Later I was taught about Pest Control and how to humanely dispatch and effectively trap areas and learned to read the signs left by possums, as scratches on trees and droppings on the ground. I am very anti '1080', which is a poison used to create a toxic bait and mainly is dispersed from helicopters throughout selected native bush and kills the animals slowly. 1080 silences the area where it's been dropped, 'no more sound of animals'. I only use a trap, Flour with Vanilla Essence which I keep in an old milk bottle around my waist. Every day I check my traps, I have about 45 of them. I kill them with one hit, with a hammer. The process is fast and I make sure the animal don"t suffer".
